  • Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island are under the jurisdiction of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, so those 70 miles of shoreline allow dogs year-round, all day, leashed, but owners must make sure they do not go after the wildlife; seasonal summer closures for endangered species that are breeding or nesting in certain sections of the shoreline; BROWN signs will indicate whether vehicles, people on foot, and/or pets are permitted in particular areas of the beach- leash can not exceed 6 ft (252) 473-2111 - Map
